Previous Flight Experience:
Previous flight experience is not required for the program. However, students who hold a Private Pilot Licence, or who have prior experience may be granted credit for flight time and/or licencing after a flight skill assessment. An advanced training plan will then be created for the student, if required.
Schedule:
Students will begin flight training in September of first year. Students are typically scheduled for three flights per week September to April, and five flights per week May to August, and will be scheduled for training events throughout the weekend. In order to complete the flight training within two years, availability of 6-7 days per week is highly recommended. A typical flight lesson is approximately two hours long, including the pre-flight and post-flight briefings. Be advised that this schedule may be impacted by weather conditions, aircraft maintenance or other uncontrollable circumstances.
Transport Canada Category 1 Medical:
Students are required to hold a Transport Canada Category 1 Medical by August 1. A list of Canadian Aviation Medical Examiners can be found here: CAME Search. Applicants are required to forward a copy of their Transport Canada Category 1 Medical to Spectrum Airways Admissions and Conestoga College Admissions by August 1st of year of admission into the program. We recommend starting this process by February 1st.
